SAWASDEE KRUB & WELCOME TO KOH MADSUM

The labor of love of Mr Surapong and Mrs Sannit Viriyanon, a local family, this resort has been built with the intention of providing our guests and visitors with a simplistic island holiday experience, while also ensuring a very Minimal Environmental Impact. Being on an island with no electric grid supply, we paid particular attention in the design to preserving the environmental integrity of this island. Designed by Big Trees Architecture Co. Ltd, a lot of thought was put into the design. The lush forest that grows wild and free on the island was a priority when the architects where first brought onto the island.

A decision between cutting the many large, old, natural trees to make way for solar panels was soon found to be in conflict with the requirement for an eco-friendly, low impact design. It was then decided that the trees would stay and the villa footprint would be designed around the trees, so minimal damage to the habitat of many species would happen.

This is what makes the property so hard to see from a distance and makes it so well camouflaged and even why till today, this remains a hidden treasure.
Diesel power was found to be the suitable option for powering the generators system that runs the resort and all air-conditioning heat is transferred from the air-conditioner exhaust system through piping to heat the bath and sink water, therefore reducing and balancing heat emissions into the environment.
The waste water was is also taken into a treatment plant that then treats and purifies this for use in the gardens.
